1896 United States of America Rose Pesotta born. Anarchist labour activist & only woman on board of Intl Ladies’ Garment Workers Union (ILGWU).

1918 France A "soviet" is set up in the town of Petite-Rosselle (Alsace) and elects delegates from among the minors.

1924 France Women sardine cannery workers in Douarnenez begin a strike that has gone down in history as one of the earliest examples of women successfully mobilising to demand workplace rights.[more]

1936 Spain Buenaventura Durruti, a leader of the Spanish anarcho-syndicalist union, the CNT, dies fighting in Madrid during the early months of the Spanish Civil War[more]
