2-06-1936 A spontaneous strike by dockers in Antwerp ignited a general strike which lasts 3 weeks. 500,000 workers joined the walkout: miners, steelworkers, transport, public services and private companies. [more]

19-06-1932 10,000 miners from Wasmes and Hornu went on strike at the employers' announcement of a 5% cut in wages. The Levant's coal bosses announced the dismissal of 484 miners. [more]

20-06-1870 In Verviers, at the end of a demonstration against "the blood tax", when a worker named Gillis shouts to the soldiers "Be gentle to the people! " he is shot dead by a soldier who is promoted to corporal. [more]
