Visa invitations deadline

Important notice to anyone who has not yet registered online: If you need help getting a visa to Germany, LabourStart can no longer help you. We have received quite a few applications for help with invitation letters and are taking care of these. But as it is already the first week of April, if you’ve not yet requested our help in getting invitation letters, it is too late. In that case, we encourage you to turn to your sister unions in Germany and Europe or to your global union federation for help in getting invitation letters.

Plenary descriptions

We just added descriptions for two of our plenaries - on building global union power, and building power at the global workplace. We’ll add names of speakers soon, and continue adding workshops. Your proposals are really adding up to an exciting programme already now!

Help us to finance this conference – donate to LabourStart

International conferences are costly – all of you participants, booking your hotels, flights and train tickets bear part of the cost. We are trying to keep this conference affordable to participants, raising no participation fee, looking for places for solidarity housing – and yes, at this conference there will be a free lunch.

Still, there is a lot of cost – first and foremost interpretation, which we are working to ensure at the best possible level, but also technical equipment, food, and many smaller items.

LabourStart is being run and financed by volunteers and voluntary contributions. We need your help for this conference as well.

You can make a donation here. Thank you for doing this.

New workshops (almost) every day!

Our workshop programme for the conference is now quickly taking shape – we are adding track and workshop descriptions as they take shape.

Recently, we have added descriptions and preliminary workshop lists for

Track 1: Building global Labour Movements
Track 4: Women workers issues and gender equality
Track 9: Organising and trade union renewal

More are coming soon!

These will obviously change as we add speakers, incorporate participants’s proposals and develop our ideas further. If you have comments, please let us know.

Conference Information available in Polish and French

Our conference leaflet (here in all available languages) and the registration form are now online in Polish and French  respectively. Please do forward the leaflet to your Polish- and French-speaking comrades – we would be very happy to welcome big delegations from these two neighbouring countries as well at the conference.

You miss your language on the website? Please contact us if you can help with translations

Show our conference logo on your website!

LS_GSC_Berlin2014_banner_100pxEN We have now uploaded our beautiful and militant conference logo in the download area. You can download or link to there to create a banner for your union’s website and thus support and promote the conference.

You will also find the conference flyer for download there. Please spread the word!

LabourStartDE on facebook and twitter

As part of building our presence in German-speaking countries, LabourStart  is now on Facebook and Twitter in German, too! Both accounts use the name LabourStartDE. We are sharing news about the conference there, but also on LabourStart campaigns and on Labour News we find interesting and worth promoting. These two accounts are also a tool to promote our campaigns – please like, share and retweet!

Book your accomodation as soon as possible

We have now made block bookings in a budget hotel and a hotel/hostel, both near the conference venue at ver.di headquarters. These are reserved until end of February and end of April respectively. Late May is the height of the tourism season and several trade fairs take place parallely with our conference, so please make sure to book your accomodation early.

For those who have indicated interest in solidarity housing, we beg your patience – we are working on setting this up and will let you know more details asap.
