LabourStart in Numbers – June 2012

Headline news –

  • 98,427 subscribers to our lists – we are only days away from reaching 100,000
  • Growth of lists – especially English – is very slow, as partner unions fail to generate new supporters and we continue pushing campaigns at the same people month after month
  • Twitter – over 500 new followers in the last two months
  • Facebook page now only 101 ‘likes’ away from being bigger than Facebook group

You’re right, the only way to continue the growth of the mailing lists is for sponsor unions to flog the campaigns they ask us to run, rather than ‘contracting-out’ the entire campaign (or at least its online component) to us.

This was underlined for me by the recent growth of the LeadNow.ca mailing list. from 80,000 to 150,000 in a couple of weeks, all because they ran a campaign that had the support of a number of major unions and a couple of civil society groups. I received more mailings from the supporting unions than I did from LeadNow. Their list benefitted tremendously from that push and the resulting cross-fertilization.
