This month in labour history

19-04-1968 While 6,000 textile workers were on strike in Valdagno, scabs were snuck into the factory under police protection. Strikers fought 1000 police and toppled the bronze statue of the factory’s founder. [more]

25-04-1945 Milan and Turin were liberated from fascism following a workers uprising and general strike. Though other towns and cities were liberated before and after, this date was immortalised in the annual Liberation Day celebrations. [more]

26-04-1885 Textile union leader Giuditta Zanella was born in Italy. Took part in 1920 factory occupations then moved to Spain and fought in the Durruti Column. [more]
