16-01-1997 Trade union leader, Dutta Samant was assassinated. He had led 300,000 mill workers in a year-long strike in 1982 in Mumbai. [more]

18-01-1982 300,000 textile workers in 60 mills across Mumbai went on strike for wage and bonus increases. Remaining out for 16 months, the workers were eventually defeated in what became a key event in the Indian workers' movement. [more]
