APFUTU protest to PIAC

All Pakistan Federation of United Trade Unions (A.P.F.U.T.U)

Mr Tariq Kirmani 26th December 2005
Chairman
PIAC
Karachi

Dear Sir,

We are writing to you as All Pakistan Federation of United Trade Unions, an affiliate of the International Transport Workers’ Federation in protest at the anti union legislation which persists in Pakistan and which companies such as PIAC continue to use in order to deny workers their rights in international law.

We call upon your government and on the management of PIAC to address these wrongs by:

1 The government to amend the anti union legislation so as to ensure workers rights to freedom of association and to freely collectively bargain according to international laws

2 PIAC management to engage in meaningful dialogue with the PIAC Unions in order to cease the current victimisation of trade union officials and to restore their employment, especially Mr.Shamim Akmal, General Secretary and Mr.Sajid Abbasi Publicity Secretary of the Air League of PIA Employees.

3 PIAC management to engage with the trade unions in a meaningful dialogue, particularly with the Pakistan Airline Pilots Association in order to address the very serious issues of their working conditions and to avert any potential safety hazards in the future.

4 The government to ensure that its Supreme Court decision which enables women cabin crew members to work beyond the age of 45 be upheld by the PIAC management.

Yours sincerely,

Pirzada Imtiaz Syed
General Secretary
