Tim Evanson here: A word of caution about something I noticed today. The New Standard (http://newstandardnews.net/) republishes their entire Web site every so often. This has the habit of making pages appear "new" or recently published to search engines like Google and Yahoo! when, in fact, the article on that page may be dated months or even a year or more ago. Several very old news articles (all of which previously appeared on LS) got posted today (Jan. 2). Maybe we (e.g., OK, I really mean Eric) could alert correspondents and ask them to be a little careful?

Dave Smith here: Tim, check the new system Eric is using instead of the Wiki. He is now using Backpack. Check here: http://davesmith.backpackit.com/page/349289

Derek Blackadder here: A few things I've been working on I wanted to pass along.

We should soon have an alternative to Powells here in Canada in the form of the York Uni Bookstore. I've had a number of complaints regarding readers' inability to get some of the Canadian (and other) titles Eric has been flogging. This should help. They'll ship worldwide, are (of course) unionized, and they've already gone ahead and started stocking all the Labour's Bookshelf titles they didn't have in stock. I had approached them in the past and not gotten any interest. They have a new co-ordinator of such things and a resulting change of heart. They have a similar arrangement with rabble.ca if you want to see roughly how it will work and what it will look like.

Once we get a sale or ten through, I'll approach the bookstore workers union for a donation. :-)

I'm trying, yet again, to drum up some advertising from unionized and union-friendly computerish firms. A number of retired co-workers of mine have set up LabourWare?, a web services for unions consultancy. I'm hoping to see something more than interest from them in the next couple of weeks.

Eric has been invited to the Labour Notes conference in May in Detroit. I'm hopeful we can set up some workshops or other events in and around Toronto, then head down to the US after. Where we will find a piece of wall for the LS banner and accept endless compliments for it. :-)
