{"id":648,"date":"2009-08-25T10:20:24","date_gmt":"2009-08-25T08:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=648"},"modified":"2009-08-25T10:20:24","modified_gmt":"2009-08-25T08:20:24","slug":"old-campaigns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=648","title":{"rendered":"Old campaigns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Of the seven campaigns currently featured on our home page, four of them are more than three months old.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve written this morning to those who requested the campaigns &#8211; in Turkey, Israel, Puerto Rico and Algeria &#8211; to ask for permission to close them down.<\/p>\n<p>A reminder why we do this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The number of messages sent after the first few days <strong>slows down to a trickle<\/strong>, and an employer or government will certainly notice that no one seems to be interested any longer in the campaign.<\/li>\n<li>Our own readers expect to see <strong>fresh campaigns<\/strong> &#8212; not long forgotten ones (in some cases, disputes which are already over).<\/li>\n<li>And &#8212; as you can see from the posting regarding the Sappi dispute below &#8212; it is hugely important to <strong>update our readers on results<\/strong>, and one way to produce such an update is to end a campaign and <strong>get a report from the union<\/strong> on what happened.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For those reasons and more, it will be rare indeed that we allow a campaign to drag on beyond three months, but we <strong>never<\/strong> close them down without first talking to the sponsoring union.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Of the seven campaigns currently featured on our home page, four of them are more than three months old.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve written this morning to those who requested the campaigns &#8211; in Turkey, Israel, Puerto Rico and Algeria &#8211; to ask for permission to close them down.
