This is the most significant political aspect of LS.\u00a0 Our “secret agenda” for the campaigns is to increase the size of our mailing list.\u00a0 By definition, these campaigns are small and specific.\u00a0 However, they also are part of our political organizing; they “raise conscience.”\u00a0 Campaigns “for apple pie” and against global warming.\u00a0 Anti-child labor campaign.\u00a0 Ban nuclear weapons.\u00a0 Such “supersize” campaigns would greatly increase the exposure of LS.\u00a0 This is how we get our mailing list to a million names.<\/p>\n
Guidelines for campaigns.\u00a0 Small, local issues are problems.\u00a0 Some requests for campaigns have been “union vs. union”.\u00a0 We only will campaign for an issue of global significance.\u00a0 Must be requested by a national union.\u00a0 Campaign launches should be accomplished automatically.\u00a0 Vietnamese and Japanese translations of our campaigns.\u00a0 Impact on employers will be greater if they are received in as many languages as possible.\u00a0 Maps:\u00a0 where are the campaigns centered?\u00a0 Many in Turkey.\u00a0 None in Latin America.<\/p>\n

In Australia, maybe national (non-global) campaigns.\u00a0 Maybe some country-specific ActNOW campaigns of regional value to LS.\u00a0 (Not enough people are involved.)\u00a0 Those on our US lists are often bothered by the international character of ActNOW issues.\u00a0 Campaign issues:\u00a0 Asbestos?\u00a0 Job security?<\/p>\n
Workers rights issues seem to generate the largest responses.\u00a0 Korea?\u00a0 FedEx?\u00a0 Canada produces the most asbestos than any other country in the world–in CLC, this gets no play:\u00a0 many Canadian workers are involved in asbestos production.<\/p>\n
