{"id":4693,"date":"2022-12-02T13:35:13","date_gmt":"2022-12-02T11:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=4693"},"modified":"2022-12-02T13:35:13","modified_gmt":"2022-12-02T11:35:13","slug":"twitter-mastodon-we-take-the-lead-in-educating-unions-about-what-to-do-next","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=4693","title":{"rendered":"Twitter\/Mastodon: We take the lead in educating unions about what to do next"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the crisis at Twitter deepens, many people have begun to use alternatives &#8212; most notably, Mastodon.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/union.place\/@labourstart\">Our account there<\/a>, which has been live for just two weeks, has <strong>144<\/strong> followers and is growing every day.<\/p>\n<p>This week we announced on social media and in a mailing to the English list that we&#8217;d be hosting a webinar today (Friday, 2.12) to introduce Mastodon to trade unionists.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve gotten Tim Wilde, the founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/union.place\/about\">The Union Place<\/a> server on Mastodon, to join us on the panel.\u00a0 Over <strong>225<\/strong> people from <strong>44<\/strong> countries &#8212; including nearly all the global unions &#8212; have signed up to participate.\u00a0 The webinar is being recorded and we will make it available on the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>In order to pre-register people, we had to create a signup page and a small database, which was done.\u00a0 This tool can now be easily modified and recycled for other events, both online and offline.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been tweaking and improving LabourStart&#8217;s back end every day this week and continue to plough through a very long list of changes that need to be made to the site.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a slow process but we are moving forward again.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, we&#8217;re waiting to hear back from our partners in Georgia about our planned Global Solidarity Conference there in April.\u00a0 Once we have spoken to them we should have some more news.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the crisis at Twitter deepens, many people have begun to use alternatives &#8212; most notably, Mastodon.\u00a0 Our account there, which has been live for just two weeks, has 144 followers and is growing every day.
