{"id":3787,"date":"2015-10-26T12:44:18","date_gmt":"2015-10-26T10:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=3787"},"modified":"2015-10-29T12:41:34","modified_gmt":"2015-10-29T10:41:34","slug":"campaigns-supporting-workers-in-estonia-turkey-india-yemen-israel-etc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=3787","title":{"rendered":"Campaigns supporting workers in Estonia, Turkey, India, Yemen, Israel, etc."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most of the work in the last 13 days has focussed on campaigns:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We launched <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstartcampaigns.net\/show_campaign.cgi?c=2862\">a new campaign<\/a> at the request of the ITF, in support of workers in Estonia.<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;re keeping <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstartcampaigns.net\/show_campaign.cgi?c=2798\">our Turkey\/Mulberry campaign<\/a> live at the moment at the request of IndustriALL pending some developments there.<\/li>\n<li>I wrote to Sharan Burrow at the ITUC offering our help in growing the joint campaign with the ILO <a href=\"http:\/\/50forfreedom.org\/\">&#8220;50 for Freedom&#8221;<\/a>. She replied and is happy to have our help.<\/li>\n<li>We gave extensive publicity to the IUF&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iuf.org\/cgi-bin\/campaigns\/show_campaign.cgi?c=952\">new PepsiCo campaign<\/a> on our home page, to our mailing lists, and on social media.<\/li>\n<li>We received a campaign request from WAC Ma&#8217;an in Israel; this is on hold pending developments in the region and we also await a reply from the Histadrut.<\/li>\n<li>We gave publicity to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifj.org\/nc\/news-single-view\/backpid\/1\/article\/ifj-calls-for-immediate-release-of-three-media-workers-kidnapped-by-al-qaida-in-yemen\/\">an IFJ campaign<\/a> in support of kidnapped media workers in Yemen on social media.<\/li>\n<li>I completed work on the new Translations Dashboard which is being used by our volunteer translators. It shows who is translating our campaigns, and prevents duplication of effort.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In other news &#8230;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We now have confirmation that our next Global Solidarity Conference will take place in early May in Toronto. Details coming soon.<\/p>\n<p>Our mailing lists grew by 317 in the last two weeks &#8212; 257 on the English list, 60 on the others.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve now heard from three of the four organizations I wrote to about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionbook.org\">UnionBook<\/a>; all three have declined the offer to adopt the site.<\/p>\n<p>We have a number of new correspondents in the last two weeks from the ETUC in Brussels and unions in Ghana, Liberia and Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Work has now begun on our Android app in French, thanks to Andy&#8217;s translation. There&#8217;s an issue with the English version that remains unresolved, so there&#8217;s some work to be done there.
