{"id":3686,"date":"2015-01-29T11:44:58","date_gmt":"2015-01-29T09:44:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=3686"},"modified":"2015-01-29T11:44:58","modified_gmt":"2015-01-29T09:44:58","slug":"week-4-of-2015-deepening-cooperation-with-the-european-trade-union-institute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=3686","title":{"rendered":"Week 4 of 2015: Deepening cooperation with the European Trade Union Institute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve just come back from two days in Brussels where I had meetings at the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) and also with Silvio Gonzato, Director of Human Rights and Democracy at the <a href=\"http:\/\/eeas.europa.eu\/index_en.htm\">European External Action Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ETUI will be holding a course which I proposed at the DGB (German national trade union centre) education center in Hattingen from 24-26 June 2015 which will focus primarily on LabourStart campaigns &#8212; and which will culminate in the live launch of an actual campaign. Invitations will go out in the next month or two.<\/p>\n<p>Also ETUI has offered extensive cooperation with us in the holding of our 2015 Strategic Retreat &#8212; more details soon. \u00a0A big thanks to Silvana for all her help setting up these important meetings and deepening our\u00a0cooperation with European trade union institutions.<\/p>\n<p>In other news this week, we picked up nearly <strong>300<\/strong> new subscribers to our mailing lists. Our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstartcampaigns.net\/show_campaign.cgi?c=2634\">Lafarge Holcim campaign<\/a> has now grown to over <strong>8,000<\/strong> messages; our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstartcampaigns.net\/show_campaign.cgi?c=2618\">Turkish health care workers campaign<\/a> is one of our largest with <strong>10,340<\/strong> supporters; and we&#8217;ll shortly be closing our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstartcampaigns.net\/show_campaign.cgi?c=2564\">USA Zara campaign<\/a> which only got <strong>7,769<\/strong> supporters in the three months it was online.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re making slow progress on publications &#8212; we have a Flickr group set up to receive candidate photos for our <em>Global Labour Calendar<\/em>; work continues on the migrant labour book; I&#8217;m waiting for some more documents before we can progress on our <em>Global Crisis, Global Solidarity<\/em> book.<\/p>\n<p>We published links to an average of <strong>193<\/strong> news stories per day, every day in January so far, for a total of over <strong>5,400<\/strong> news stories. \u00a0<strong>74<\/strong> of our correspondents have been active posting news in January &#8212; out of <strong>763<\/strong> correspondents. \u00a0In other words, over\u00a0<strong>90%<\/strong> of the correspondents did not post news in January. \u00a0Of those who did, <strong>12<\/strong> posted <strong>100<\/strong> or more stories. \u00a0If you&#8217;re reading this and are an inactive LabourStart correspondent and need help (don&#8217;t remember your password, or have forgotten how to add news), please don&#8217;t hesitate to write to me &#8211; <a href=\"mailto:ericlee@labourstart.org\">ericlee@labourstart.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve just come back from two days in Brussels where I had meetings at the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) and also with Silvio Gonzato, Director of Human Rights and Democracy at the European External Action Service.
