{"id":3318,"date":"2014-01-10T11:06:48","date_gmt":"2014-01-10T09:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=3318"},"modified":"2014-01-10T11:06:48","modified_gmt":"2014-01-10T09:06:48","slug":"the-weeks-in-review-1-10-1-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=3318","title":{"rendered":"The weeks in review &#8211; 1-10.1.14"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Campaigns:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We&#8217;ve closed the Korean teachers&#8217; campaign and will soon be receiving a report back on the results.<\/li>\n<li>The Cambodia campaign, launched yesterday, is taking off very quickly &#8212; already considerably larger than the Carnival (Crown Holdings) campaign launched a week earlier.<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;re now running our first campaign ever in Ukrainian.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Berlin 2014:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I&#8217;m off to Berlin tomorrow with Tom to meet with the organizing committee.<\/li>\n<li>At the moment we have 260 registrants for the conference, 54 of them from Germany, 40 from the UK.<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;ve updated the database adding a number of new fields to begin recording where people will stay, their flight details, contact phone numbers, etc. This information will be added by the conference organizers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Books:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve just heard from Dan Gallin that he&#8217;s assembled the texts for our next book, which we can now begin to produce and sell. \u00a0This will be LabourStart&#8217;s fourth book.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mailing lists:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We had a problem with Sendy, trying to resolve it with help from them.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>French edition:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Derek and Andy have made several suggestions for improvements which we&#8217;ve begun to implement.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Fundraising:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We&#8217;re about to do the quarterly fundraising mailing to people who regularly support our online campaigns.<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;ve also written to all our correspondents about the Svensson prize (having already told our entire list about it) and fingers crossed maybe this year LabourStart will be considered for this.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Newswires:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We now have a Vietnamese English-language newswire at the request of our comrades in Australia, and it appears on the website of the committee to protect Vietnamese workers.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>News database:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re adding additional languages to allow new correspondents to post news without having to deal with an English interface.
