{"id":3026,"date":"2013-07-05T13:52:24","date_gmt":"2013-07-05T11:52:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=3026"},"modified":"2013-07-05T13:52:24","modified_gmt":"2013-07-05T11:52:24","slug":"the-week-in-review-27-june-5-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=3026","title":{"rendered":"The week in review &#8211; 27 June &#8211; 5 July"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Campaigns<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bangladesh:<\/em> The ITUC is proposing a new campaign in support of changes to the labour laws; it could be launched today.<\/p>\n<p><em>India:<\/em> We&#8217;ve been asked to do a campaign in support of Suzuki workers.\u00a0 We&#8217;re waiting for an answer from IndustriALL on this.<\/p>\n<p><em>Turkey:<\/em> We&#8217;re up to 21,634 supporters for this, our largest-ever campaign.<\/p>\n<p><em>Canada:<\/em> Our campaign in support of brewery workers is rapidly approaching the 5,000 mark, which is exceptionaly good for a campaign in just one language, targetting only one country.\u00a0 It was helped by the IUF promoting it in a mailing.<\/p>\n<p><em>PepsiCo India:<\/em> We helped the IUF promote this important campaign on their site, which is now up to well over 9,400 supporters.<\/p>\n<p><em>Thailand:<\/em> Our campaign in support of Andy Hall was closed, and we await news from BWI and UNI about the results.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>International Training Centre of the ILO &#8211; Turin, Italy<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I spoke yesterday at a seminar for trade union communicators from Asia.\u00a0 There were 15 participants from a wide range of countries and for most of them it was their first exposure to LabourStart.\u00a0 Each of them left with copies of both of our books.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be following up with all of them as individuals.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>LabourStart books<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our total sales for Campaigning online and winning is <strong>904<\/strong> (78 in French, 826 in English), and for the Global labour movement it&#8217;s <strong>427<\/strong> (English only).\u00a0 Of those <strong>1,253<\/strong> books, 92 were Kindle editions and all the rest, paperbacks.\u00a0 We&#8217;re working hard on books 3 and 4 now, and will have more details very soon.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Fundraising<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We did the quarterly fundraising mailing on Monday to our <strong>19,692<\/strong> core supporters (people who&#8217;ve supported at least 3 LabourStart campaigns in the last 12 months).\u00a0 There were some issues with the payment system (until today, it only accepted one currency) and some people were confused about how to change the default country it was showing. Nevertheless, we&#8217;ve received a considerable number of donations, totalling <strong>\u00a31,523<\/strong> (US$2,283).<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Labour history calendar<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re now getting closer to publishing this and today are writing to a number of key LabourStart correspondents and translators in different countries to get the best 13 illustrations we can for this.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>New home page<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Edd has been working together with Espen and Andy to finalize the migration of our last two remaining language editions of LabourStart to the new format introduced some time ago in Englsh.\u00a0 The Norwegian version is now live and the French one is coming soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Campaigns Bangladesh: The ITUC is proposing a new campaign in support of changes to the labour laws; it could be launched today.
