On 24.1, Edd will speak at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unions21.org.uk\/events\/unions21-tech-seminar-post-email-how-do-we-communi\">Unions 21 tech seminar<\/a>. And on 13-14 March, we&#8217;re organizing a panel at the <a href=\"http:\/\/fairsay.com\/events\/ecampaigning-forum\/2013\/\">E-Campaigning Forum<\/a> in Oxford.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Campaigns:<\/strong> We&#8217;re about to launch two new ones today &#8211; on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstartcampaigns.net\/show_campaign.cgi?c=1676\">El Salvador<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstartcampaigns.net\/show_campaign.cgi?c=1675\">Philippines<\/a>. \u00a0These are our first new campaigns in nearly 6 weeks &#8212; it has been a very quiet season. \u00a0As reported below, we now have the campaigns newswire working correctly in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/lnwcampaigns.shtml\">19 languages<\/a>, in both JavaScript and RSS versions &#8211; please make sure to promote this in your country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Book:<\/strong> Sales have reached <a href=\"https:\/\/www.createspace.com\/4104805\">377<\/a>. \u00a0Let&#8217;s all push hard to get that number up to 500 over the next few days. \u00a0We were briefly an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Campaigning-Online-Winning-LabourtStarts-Campaigns\/dp\/1481804448\">Amazon.co.uk best-seller<\/a>, hitting the top 1,000 books they were selling, and reaching number 2 in our category. \u00a0A Kindle edition is coming soon, and we&#8217;re starting to think about doing another book. \u00a0Meanwhile, I expect to complete my book for UCS by the end of January &#8211; the working title is \u00a0<em><b>Making Unions Stronger &#8211; Using The Internet Better.<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Labour Newswire:<\/strong> We&#8217;ve pushed our newswires aggressively to UK unions, and it&#8217;s bearing fruit. \u00a0We had 40 UK sites listed, that dropped down to 20 after Edd removed all the dead wood, and now we&#8217;re back up to 28. You can see the up-to-date list of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/cgi-bin\/show_lnwgn.pl\">all 302 sites<\/a> using our newswire here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Today in Labour History:<\/strong> We now have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/labourhistory\/showuserdb.pl\">11 people<\/a> adding content to this; almost every day, there is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/labourhistory\/show_lhc.pl\">something<\/a> on our front page in English. \u00a0 (And more things coming soon.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inactive correspondents:<\/strong> Edd has gone through the 500 or so correspondents who&#8217;ve not been active, writing individually to each one, and giving support (such as new passwords) where needed. \u00a0In a few weeks, we&#8217;ll be deleting those who are showing no interest in continuing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upcoming global solidarity conferences:<\/strong> I&#8217;ve finally heard (today) from a colleague in Germany about the possibility of a conference in Berlin in May 2014; I&#8217;ll be following up. \u00a0Derek has been in discussions with people in Vancouver about a conference there in late 2014.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fund-raising:<\/strong> We&#8217;ve gotten generous donations from two unions in the USA (United Steelworkers and the Amalgamated Transportation Union) and hoping for more. \u00a0We&#8217;ve sent out a few copies of the campaigns book to donors who have given \u00a31,000 or more in the last couple of years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Public appearances in the UK: We&#8217;ll be represented at three upcoming UK-based events. \u00a0On 19.1, I&#8217;ll be speaking at the Southend Labour Party.
