{"id":1717,"date":"2011-06-21T14:02:03","date_gmt":"2011-06-21T12:02:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=1717"},"modified":"2011-06-22T06:08:19","modified_gmt":"2011-06-22T04:08:19","slug":"10000-messages-by-the-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=1717","title":{"rendered":"10,000 messages by the weekend?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/cgi-bin\/solidarityforever\/show_campaign.cgi?c=1022\">This<\/a> is shaping up to be the biggest campaign we&#8217;ve ever run &#8212; and we&#8217;ve only just scratched the surface.<\/p>\n<p>As I write these words, we&#8217;re at <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7,463<\/span><\/span><strong> 9,184 <\/strong>messages sent.<\/p>\n<p>But we can easily reach the figure of <strong>10,000<\/strong> and if we&#8217;re any good at this campaigning thing, much more than that.<\/p>\n<p>Keep these numbers in mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CUPW &#8211; the union whose very existence is being threatened &#8211; has <strong>54,000<\/strong> members, and that&#8217;s not counting family members.<\/li>\n<li>The Canadian Labour Congress represents <strong>3,200,000<\/strong> members<\/li>\n<li>UNI Global Union&#8217;s Post and Logistics Sector represents <strong>2,500,000<\/strong> postal workers in 157 unions<\/li>\n<li>Britain&#8217;s Communication Workers Union alone represents <strong>210,000<\/strong> workers, many of them employed by the Royal Mail<\/li>\n<li>The US&#8217;s National Association of Letter Carriers has <strong>300,000<\/strong> members<\/li>\n<li>The American Postal Workers Union, also in the USA, has <strong>330,000<\/strong> members<\/li>\n<li>90% of the people on LabourStart&#8217;s mailing lists &#8211; another <strong>63,000<\/strong> trade unionists &#8211; have not yet signed up to this campaign<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So let&#8217;s be ambitious &#8212; the sky&#8217;s the limit!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is shaping up to be the biggest campaign we&#8217;ve ever run &#8212; and we&#8217;ve only just scratched the surface.
