{"id":165,"date":"2008-11-26T14:10:44","date_gmt":"2008-11-26T12:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=165"},"modified":"2008-11-26T14:12:12","modified_gmt":"2008-11-26T12:12:12","slug":"biggest-campaign-ever-crashes-our-server","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=165","title":{"rendered":"Biggest campaign ever crashes our server"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As you may know, many people are getting error messages when trying to send off messages to Iran.<\/p>\n<p>In the most recent quarter-hour period, I see that just under 100 messages were successfully sent off &#8212; so at the rate of 400 messages per hour, this is probably our biggest campaign ever.<\/p>\n<p>There are many things going on here that can be slowing things down, so here are the steps I&#8217;ve taken to speed things up:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When <strong>sending off a message<\/strong>, it no longer writes to our old flat ASCII database.\u00a0 This was certainly slowing things down and I believe this is no longer necessary now that we have a much faster MySQL database.<\/li>\n<li>When <strong>displaying a campaign<\/strong>, we no longer show how many people have signed up (in real time) &#8211; but this will be restored later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ve gotten a number of messages from people complaining &#8211; here is what I&#8217;ve replied to each one:<\/p>\n<p><em>Thanks for writing &#8211; it appears that a very large number of people trying to access the page at the same time is causing this problem.\u00a0 Please try again later.\u00a0 Thanks for your patience.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As you may know, many people are getting error messages when trying to send off messages to Iran.
