{"id":1315,"date":"2010-09-01T10:41:48","date_gmt":"2010-09-01T08:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=1315"},"modified":"2010-09-01T10:41:48","modified_gmt":"2010-09-01T08:41:48","slug":"two-campaigns-to-close-today-and-thoughts-about-expectations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/blogs\/?p=1315","title":{"rendered":"Two campaigns to close today &#8211; and thoughts about expectations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve gotten the green light to shut down two of our campaigns after more than three months online.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/cgi-bin\/solidarityforever\/show_campaign.cgi?c=704\">Algeria campaign<\/a> with 2,735 messages sent produced no results in the field (we are told). \u00a0The union is looking to get a new headquarters somewhere else.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labourstart.org\/cgi-bin\/solidarityforever\/show_campaign.cgi?c=714\">Foxconn campaign<\/a>, with 5,484 supporters (yes, double the number of the Algeria campaign), contributed to a lot of publicity about the case and probably helped pressure Foxconn to raise wages.<\/p>\n<p>Later today, we&#8217;ll have only 6 active campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder if we shouldn&#8217;t begin to make as one of the criteria for our campaigns that there be some reasonable expectation that the campaign produce a result. \u00a0Not a guarantee, of course, but sometimes I think unions ask us to do campaigns because it&#8217;s just something on their to-do list to publicize a dispute, but the effort produces no result at all and no one ever expected it to do so.<\/p>\n<p>This sounds harsh, but I wonder if we shouldn&#8217;t be thinking about it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve gotten the green light to shut down two of our campaigns after more than three months online.
