Mexico: Reinstate sacked workers in Janos

Municipal workers in Chihuahua do not enjoy the protection of collective bargaining legislation, and often municipal workers are fired at the time administrations change. This was the case in Janos, when an anti-union administration fired 28 workers on April 30th. Five were quickly rehired
when the government found it could not function without them and three others accepted severance. On May 16, legal cases were filed for the remaining 20 workers. However,
there is no unemployment insurance system in Mexico and the legal process is slow. Faced with economic hardship, especially as this is now the time for children to return to school, others have also accepted severance. Although the workers have received solidarity and some financial support from other locals of municipal workers belonging to the Federation, it has not been sufficient.

This request for solidarity comes from the Authentic Workers Front (FAT), on behalf of one of their affiliates, the municipal workers union in the town of Janos, in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico.
