Bit of Outreach in Canada

Derek Blackadder here.

I spoke in Vancouver at a fringe event at the convention of the Confederation of Canadian Unions, the smallest of the 4 central labour bodies here. About 160 present. I had about an hour, including time for questions, on the theme of ‘LabourStart Behind the Scenes: what we do, how we do it and how we can help’.

It was a good experience for all I think, though it has reminded me of the need to recruit a reliable and fairly senior LabourStarter from the Vancouver area. I flew 5.5 hours to get there late on a Friday night, spoke on the Saturday and flew back early Sunday. We should be soliciting more invitations to these kinds of events but to do so means either we have to have a more robust network of LS volunteers who can speak knowledgeably about LabourStart or I need to retire and free up more time for these things. 🙂

In any case, we made some new contacts as only about half of those present knew something about us. There was a fairly lively Q&A session at the end as well.
