Twitter Caucus?

If you manage one of the LabourStart Twitter feeds could you update me (Derek Blackadder) on what you’re doing? I’m about to do another quick survey of the people following the feeds I run to see what they think about tweet frequency, hours, etc and it would be useful to know what you’re doing I think.

FYI, here’s what I currently have set up:

Management software: Hootsuite

Global English feed: one tweet every 3 hours, 24/7. Plus campaign tweets, the auto feed of Top Stories as they are posted and the odd tweet from Eric et al at the office.

English Canadian feed: one per hour, 12 per day, 7 days per week from 0700 to 1900 Eastern.

French Canadian feed: one every two hours, 6 per day, 7 days per week from 0700 to 1900 Eastern.

I also have some boilerplate tweets (re. the Flickr group, newswires, donations, that sort of thing) which I throw into the mix as the mood takes me.

Thanks.

Derek

    Hi Derek,

We’ve just revived the German language twitter feed (labourstartde), and have been posting tweets about once a day since.

We are mainly posting in German and try to reach the German (+Austrian and Swiss) labour community and build that over time.
We are following 25 people and are being followed by 18 at the moment – I hope this will grow considerably until the conference.

    Best,
    Gisela

  • Must admit I’ve not much time for Twitter (in fact, it pisses me off) and don’t really understand how it works. Was longtime the underdog to FB in France, but that’s changing thanks to media usage. French is always longer than English by about a third, so messages are even more difficult to formulate. I always tweet via UnionBook. If it could send stuff out on it’s own, might be more interested.

The length of postings issue is a serious problem. A lot of my French tweets end with “…”.

Should we be looking at some thematic feeds? One for stories off the Working Women page, another for H&S mebbe? Or is that too much fragmentation/specialization?

  • Kinda fun FYI: Popstar Justin Bieber’s uncle follows our English Canadian news feed on Twitter. Regularly re-tweets our stuff to his 55,000 followers. 🙂
